A sunny spring morning greets both teams for a pre league match friendly here at Turvey. Early chances are falling to Linslade with Deven going closest in the first few minutes. We’re playing with a high line, leaving us vulnerable to a Turvey counter. Turvey have a few pre worked routines from corners that are causing some confusion but we are coping for now. Zach and Theo are commanding in midfield, creating opportunities that we are yet to convert. Ewan and Stanley continue to sweep up well at the back, limiting Turvey to any chances. As the Qtr comes to a close, it’s Miles who almost takes us into the break leading.

Some changes to the team for the start of Qtr 2. Alfie and Luca at the back and Fred starts on the wing. Unfortunately he’s carrying an injury and despite showing grit to play through the pain he has to be subbed with Shay rejoining. Henry is called into action for the 1st time, coping well to keep the scores level. Chance after chance for Linslade now, surely a goal is coming.Henry puts his body on the line and Luca is tackling strongly to help keep Linslade dominant. The corner count for Linslade is racking up but as yet, we’re unable to convert.WOW! Miles suddenly thunders a strike into the corner. Much deserved and much needed.

We swap ends to start H2 and the crowd cheers to see Fred returning to field. Some confident passing at the back between Ewan and Alfie pushes Linslade forward. Deven and Fred battle strongly, leading to Luca shaving the bar. Another through ball from Stanley finds Deven this time who smashes the ball over the keeper and into the net. The front 3 of Miles, Deven and Luca continue to threaten, with chances coming thick and fast. Another Rory Delap style throw from Stanley helps win yet another corner for Linslade that Luca again almost converts. Out of nowhere Turvey score a great equaliser. Stanley drills a shot wide just prior to the whistle going.

Final Qtr kicks off with Linslade looking to get themselves back in front. Miles takes the gloves with Henry stepping into defence.Ewan is tackling anything that moves in midfield, keeping Turvey on the back foot. A great pass from Ewan is struck from distance by Theo. The goalies can only parry it and Deven follows up but just misses the goal. Come on Wanderers. As parents start checking watches we go agonising close again. The ooh’s and aargh’s from the parents rings round as we inch closer and closer to victory. A rare slip at the back from Turvey that’s intercepted by Deven who scores in the final moments. Well done Galaxy, great game!
