(Many thanks to Jethro Cotton for the report)
On a very cold morning in Fairfield, MK, the U8s Linslade Galaxy Wildcats team attended their first ever Girls’ Football Festival. There was a brilliant atmosphere, with lots of excited supporters on the sidelines cheering the teams on.
Looking very smart in their green and blue, the girls were enthusiastic, excited and very committed to each of the matches, which were played in a 5 x 5 format. With the talent we have, Galaxy was able to field two U8 teams. The Wildcats’ Blue team were up first against City Belles with a cracking 4 – 0 win. The second match, against MK City Pearls’ Orange team was a tougher match. Our Wildcats battled hard but were beaten 3 – 2. Determined to fight back against MK City Pearls’ Whites, Galaxy’s Wildcats produced another fantastic performance scoring 3, or maybe even 4 goals without reply from the Pearls.
Wildcats’ Green team’s first match was against MK City Pearls Orange. This was a close match that ended in a 1-0 loss but was a great opportunity to warm up. The Wildcats won the second match against City Belles with some excellent goals scored and accurate passing and footwork. Match 3 was also a win, against MK City Pearls’ Whites team. Both teams played some excellent football and it’s brilliant to see how much the girls are improving week on week. They are really coming together as a team, passing to each other, looking for, and using the space around them while each enjoying their time on the pitch.
The last of the games was a Linslade Galaxy double header with a 5 x 5 match against each other. A very close match with a win for the Green team. Lots of happy faces at the end of the morning said it all, so well done to all the girls. You made us super proud!
The U9 team played three matches, all were very competitive, and we came up against two experienced teams. However, the Galaxy players were magnificent in all three matches. They won their first two games convincingly, along the way playing some great passing football which was an absolute joy to watch from a Coaches point of view.
We have been working on moving the ball wide from Goal Kicks and getting Goal side of players and it was evident to see this morning that the training was now being put into practice.
Unfortunately, they lost their final match against a strong Bedford Girls team, but this was not to dampen the spirit of the team who all showed how much they enjoy their football. The effort, skill and commitment were on full display this morning.
With great feedback from other Coaches this was another display of how far and how much these players have improved over the past few months. Special mention to Berks and Bucks FA for arranging this Festival, to all Coaches who attended and for the parents who braved the bitter weather. We are all looking forward to the next festival coming up on Sunday 3rd April.
