Spartak prevented from double with penalty heartache for Blacks

(Many thanks to Coach Steve for the tournament write up)

Linslade Galaxy Spartak entered two teams into the Oxford City 6 a side tournament and despite coming all this way there were some familiar faces in the other teams as MK Athletic, MK Gallacticos and Luton All Stars had also made the long journey over to Oxford.

Linslade Galaxy Blacks topped their group with 3 wins out of 3 to secure a spot in the semi final of the cup where as Linslade Galaxy Greens were just pipped for 2nd place so dropped into the plate competition.

The semi final of the cup was a tight affair against our old foes MK Athletic, Galaxy blacks dominated the semi final and took the lead in the 5th minute with a well taken low drive by Matthew, seemingly cruising to the final the unthinkable happened as MK Athletic scored with only 30 seconds of the game remaining. The resulting penalty shoot out almost went through the whole team twice with Athletic eventually winning 5 - 4.

In the other semi final Linslade Galaxy Greens took on Middleton Cheney and this game was settled by an absolute worldy of a goal as our goal keeper Thomas speared one into the top corner from 30 yards to add to a great finish from Theo, 2-0, to put his team into the final. The final was a very tight affair against a very strong Gallacticos team but coaches Andre and Tony got their tactics spot on as Owen slotted home the winner for a famous 1-0 victory and the greens went home with the trophy. Well done to everyone involved some great football was played by both teams and we was certainly unlucky not to come home with the double.
