Bobby's superb defensive display earns him the Player of the Match award

(Many thanks to Luke's Dad, Roger, for the match report)

Linslade Galaxy U11 Spartak returned to league action this morning following the Easter break and welcomed a very talented Kempston Rovers side to Cedars. In what was Spartak’s final league home match of the season, both sides put on a fantastic and thrilling display of football for everyone to enjoy!

It was Kempston who started the match the sharper of the two sides though with some neat and tidy passing in midfield and their pacey forwards looking dangerous on the break. Unsurprisingly, it was Kempston who opened the scoring with a lightening quick break-away goal following a clearance from a Galaxy corner.

As the first half continued, Spartak began to take more control of the game and started to find their passes and quickened the tempo of the match. Dylan found Luke in space just outside the box whose first time shot rifled into the top left corner. Both sides added goals from free kicks prior to half-time. An unfortunate mistake from the Kempston keeper allowed Jack P’s free kick to cross the line to put Spartak ahead, only for Kempston to hit back with a looping free-kick, which Caelan bravely reached but just could not stop the on-rushing strikers from stabbing home.

The second half saw Spartak continue to be in the ascendancy. Bobby, Joseph, Elliott and Oliver made some timely tackles in defence, while Rosie and Niall looked dangerous up front. However, Spartak could just not find that opening to unlock the Kempston defence. Huey and Jack I went close with efforts and Stan saw his second half free kick fizz just wide. As the game entered the dying minutes, Matty latched on to a long Caelan up-field kick who calmly and cleverly lobbed the Kempston keeper to the delight of the crowd and all the Spartak players who celebrated together in true team spirit!

All in all, a fantastic and entertaining display of football from both sides. Coach Steve awarded the Gartec Player of the Match to Bobby because he continued to support his team mates throughout the game and played like a proper leader! Well done Bobby! A big thanks to Robin for refereeing again and to Phil for running the line.
