U11 SPORTING PLAY MK GALLACTICOS IN SCRAPPY AFFAIR

Bobbly pitch makes good football difficult

(Many thanks to Peter Hamer for the match report)

This week Sporting travelled to Milton Keynes to face MK Gallacticos U10 Titans.

It was a lovely sunny Spring morning, although the recent good weather did mean that both teams had to contend with a hard bobbly pitch.

This didn’t help either team in playing good football and the first half was a tight scrappy affair, with neither goalkeeper having a save of any note to make.

Sporting certainly started the more positive team and were on the front foot in the opening stages. Gallacticos came more into it as the half wore on, but the Sporting back two of Lewis and George, along with Joshua Goble, Will and Ollie Morgan in central midfield stood strong.

The second half had a very similar pattern.

Sporting started well, but just struggled with the final pass to create that clear cut opening.

Gallacticos came back into the game and were mounting attacks of their own. They nicked the first goal of the game with a breakaway midway through the half. Five minutes later they added another goal in similar circumstances.

Sporting continued to push for a goal of their own. Jack Wag, Harry, Ollie Mitchell and Joshua Green were driving the team forward. Half chances did come along, but it was just one of those days where the ball wouldn’t quite fall for a Sporting player.

Gallacticos finished the stronger of the two teams and but for a few saves from Christopher, and some last ditch defending from George and Lewis, could have added more to their tally.

Well played to both teams in what was a tight and well matched contest. As always Sporting, heads up and we go again next week.

Finally, big thanks to Colin for being the Sporting linesman this morning.
