MKDDL U12 DIVISION 7
Linslade Galaxy U12 Ajax 3 – 1 Tattenhoe U12 FC
The scene was set! Ajax knew that 2 more points would be enough to achieve promotion without relying on results elsewhere. Could they do it?
Today's opponents Tattenhoe FC were no mugs. They held the Ajax to a draw in the first fixture and were leading 1-0 in the rain abandoned attempted game back in January. This was going to be tough, real tough for the Linslade team.
10.30am on the dot, in the resplendent sun, and with some obvious nerves in the 50+ crowd the game kicked off. The nerves were eased in the third minute as a wonderful counterattacking move finished with Ajax taking the lead. Big Seb intercepted a though ball and broke the Tattenhoe defensive line with a though ball of his own out wide to Foxy. Foxy cut inside and squared a wonderful cross to the onrushing Joe who made no mistake from close range. 1-0 and Ajax promoted as it stands!
Both teams were playing high defensive lines and looking for that killer through ball and it was the heroics of 'Keeper Ethan that kept the slender Galaxy lead, twice diving (with no regards to his own safety) at the Tattenhoe forwards feet to save what would have been certain goals.
Ethan then pulled off the save of the season! A wicked Tattenhoe corner was whipped into the box and met beautifully on the head of their big number 9. The header was destined for the bottom corner but somehow Ethan got down and not only got a hand to the ball but kept hold of it! Think Pele/ Banks 1970 (google it, you younger ones).
At the other end, Joe eased the home team worries with a typical Joe goal, marauding through the middle before smashing home with aplomb! 2-0 and Ajax are going up!!
Tattenhoe then went up the other end and got the goal their performance deserved. A perfect though ball beat the back line and the attacker got to the ball just before Ethan's despairing dive to round him and slot home into the empty net. 2-1 to the Ajax and we are still getting promoted today, just!
The halftime whistle went and Coach Cooper could not have asked for more from his young chargers. They were working their socks of and playing brilliantly. 30 minutes more of hard work and they had done it!
A few technical tweaks to the back line, superbly marshalled by big Seb nullified the long ball game of Tattenhoe and it was pressure, pressure, pressure from the Ajax in the second half. All tensions in the ground were finally eased when Joe burst through out wide and crossed to Finn to smash the ball home. 3-1 TO THE AJAX!!!!!
The final 10 minutes was time and possession management at it's finest from the Linslade team as a game with such tension, petered out.
Finally the ref (me) blew for full time and Ajax had done it! 15 wins on the trot had seen them promoted at the earliest opportunity!
PLAYER RATINGS
Ethan 10/10
5 superb saves including that save from that header! Distribution was the best he has produced all season. Fully deserves one of the 3 Gartec Players of the Match medals handed out today.
Thomas 10/10
Today's Captain lead by example. Fantastic at the back and some really good distribution going forward.
Big Seb 10/10
Our centre half was first to everything today and I mean everything! An absolutely colossal performance and a deserved Player of the Match winner.
Little Seb 10/10
His first season with the team but looks like he has been with us forever. Seb spends a lot of time facing his own goal whilst defending and was always calm and assured with both his tackling and passing.
Luke 10/10
Luke played through the pain barrier after a nasty toe injury before the game. Despite the injury meaning he had to go off in the first half, he battled through to re-join his teammates on the pitch in the second half. He showed the battling spirit that embodies this team.
Noah 10/10
Whether at left back or left wing, a total menace to the opponents today. Some fantastic crosses were unlucky not to be converted. I love the fact this lad is always smiling!
William 10/10
I had to check his boots for magnets today. Always in the right place at the right time to make the important interception or tackle!
Harry 10/10
So cultured on the ball today. Dangerous on the right wing and always playing the right pass when at CDM. A brilliant performance.
Dylan 10/10
Mr Versatile! Played up front and across the midfield today. Understands the game so well. Brilliant interaction today with Joe injured and play going on, he slotted back into the midfield without being asked.
Joe 10/10
Joe needed a big game after last week and boy did he have it. Up and down the pitch tirelessly and pitched in with 2 goals and an assist. Joe played like a leader today and fully deserved his Gartec Player of the Match medal.
Finn 10/10
Finn sacrificed his normal razzle dazzle game today for a more workmanlike performance and what a performance it was. Releasing the ball at the right time and always showing as an option. Took his goal really well.
Foxy 10/10
A change for Foxy today, playing on the right wing rather than up top and his energy in the midfield made a big difference. A wonderful cross for the opening goal.
George 10/10
Incredible from George again. Despite his size, he is so strong on the ball and this strength combined with blistering pace caused all sorts of problems today.
Coaches Comments:
"I've run out of words to express my admiration for this lot. To not only go 15 games unbeaten but to win 15 on the trot is an incredible achievement, likely to never be repeated. To get promoted today is just the icing on the cake. To a player, this is the best bunch of kids I have ever had the pleasure to coach. They have been quite fantastic all season. It'll be some party when its all wrapped up in a months time!"
