MKDDL U12 SHIELD SEMI-FINAL
Heelands Rangers U12 1 v 2 Linslade Galaxy U12 Bayern
Linslade Galaxy Bayern travelled to the unbeaten league leaders, Heelands Rangers, in the semi final of the shield.
Bayern without two recent signings due to ineligibility, the team started superbly with Leo making a brilliant tackle on their winger in the opening minutes, the same winger who'd caused problems when the two teams met in the league in October.
Bayern quickly became the stronger side, with Charlie providing an assist to Barnaby who calmly rounded their goalkeeper and slotted the ball in to make it 1-0 after just 7 minutes.
Heelands, not used to going behind, changed shape and tactics in an attempt to break through, but the excellence of Luca nullified any threat down there left, Luca's performance was exceptional.
Alexander playing a key role in central defence, covering his team mates on the rare occasions Heelands broke past them and meeting every ball played in, not letting anything bounce.
The chances mainly fell Bayern's way with the seasons top scorer Charlie making some great runs to receive passes behind the defence from Adam and Josh.
Late in the first half, Lewis made a fantastic save keeping the ball out - but having not had too much to do, it was a great stop getting down quickly to his left hand side.
The other big chance Heelands had saw the forever impressive Josh hooking the ball off the line to keep the lead intact.
Bayern knew they were in for a very different type of match with Adam in midfield making tackles, tracking back and just breaking up the game. His forward play was impressive as he played so great passes and got his head to a number of corners, unlucky with one effort from a Frank corner that usually sees the ball end up in the back of the net.
The boys closed down and made the game very difficult out of possession, in possession they did incredibly well to pass the ball and many instances in the match had Heelands facing their own goal.
The second goal coming from the excellent Josh who swivelled on the ball and found the far corner, 2-0 with 44 minutes gone.
Just over a quarter of an hour to play, Heelands changed to put two upfront in an effort to break down an impressive defensive unit.
A change down the left had side saw the energie of Albie, who chased and hurried the defence forcing some errors and putting the ball out for out throw in.
The game became a little more frantic towards the end, Billy coming on up front to chase and hurry the defence, putting in some good blocks.
Three minutes to go, nerves were increased on the sidelines as Heelands scored a scrappy goal and were very much up for it, momentum was there's until their sub came to meet the ball as it rolled out for their throw, the excited sub stopped the ball on the line, it hadn't gone out of play much to the despair of the opposition manager. An indirect freekick and Bayern cleared their lines, the game ending in their half and the elation of this group was great to see.
Opponents in the final, due to be played at MK Dons (subject to MK Dons not entering the playoffs) is currently unknown as the other semi final, Sporting Club Aspire U12 Vipers v Leighton United U12 Blues will be played next Saturday.
Both Jamie and Chris are incredibly proud of the 11 boys involved yesterday.
****CLUB COMMENTS***
A huge congratulations to the players and coaches of our U12 Bayern side as they reached the final of the U12 Shield.
U12 Bayern certainly had to do it the hard way with all their matches against teams from the top two divisions in the competition. They also had to play both the quarter-final and the semi-final away from home.
The semi-final itself could not have been a harder draw - away against league leaders Heelands Rangers, who have won 10 and drawn 1 of their 11 league games this season. However, Bayern were not to be denied and they maintained their 1-0 lead at half-time to come out eventual winners 2-1.
U12 Bayern join U15 Spartak in what promises to be a very exciting day of cup final action!
