MKDDL U12 Division 8
Linslade Galaxy U12 Flamengo 2 v 0 MK Wanderers U12 Kestrels
After beating Tattenhoe Red in their last league fixture, Flamengo knew that another stern test awaited them as second place MK Wanderers were the visitors to Cedars this morning.
The first half was really tight with both teams having periods of possession. However, it was only the woodwork that prevented Flamengo from taking a lead into the half-time break, which they would have just about deserved.
In the second half Flamengo were clearly in the ascendency and began to create multiple chances. Both Elliot and Arthur missed great opportunities by firing over and straight at the keeper respectively. It looked as though it was going to be one of those matches where a dominating team come away with a 0-0 draw.
Thankfully the pressure that Flamengo were applying eventually resulted in two goals for the home side. Firstly, Elliot worked down the left-hand side and his cross was met by a Charlie P. toe-poke, which drove the ball into the back of the net. Then Elliot drove into the box, but his effort was saved by the excellent MK Wanderers goalkeeper. Luckily for Flamengo the rebound went straight to Marcus who smashed it home to double Flamengo's lead.
It was not all Galaxy though in the second half. MK Wanderers looked pacy and dangerous on the attack, but Axel, Tom and Charlie W were like rocks in the back, giving Jasper a relatively quiet game in goal.
The player's player of the match was Marcus for scoring his first ever goal for Flamengo and for his general link up play. Simon awarded Tom the Manager's Player of the Match for a truly outstanding defensive display.
Well done Flamengo - another great result and one which cements the team's position in the top three of the league.
Finally, a big thank you to Lars for taking up the referee's duties today.
