U12 PORTO EXIT CUP AFTER MUCH IMPROVED SECOND HALF

No joy for Porto in cup semi-final against TFA Lions

(Many thanks to Coach, Andy, for the match report)

Saturday 15 March 2025
MKDDL U12 League Cup Semi-Final
TFA Lions U12 7 – 1 Linslade Galaxy U12 Porto

This was a tough one to take, but what a difference in the second half, showing Porto what could have been.

Unfortunately, the damage was done early doors. Conceding three goals in ten minutes meant it would be an uphill task thereafter. Porto didn't get going and lacked ownership in their own box to clear their lines. Maybe overawed by the occasion, giving too much respect to their opponents, or the fact they hadn't played for a month since the quarter final, all contributed to their slow start too.

The scoreline looks convincing, but what we're proud of is the fact they never gave up. Getting to the semi-final is a great achievement and should be congratulated. We came undone against one of the clear favourites who were expected to be in the final.

In the second half, with the pressure lifted and a chance to go and express themselves, Porto were a different team. Drawing 1-1 in the second half showed what they could do. Fraser's goal was reward for the team's hard work. There was more desire as they shut down their opponents quicker and didn't give them time. Porto received great comments from the league referee after the match, who said many teams would have crumbled in the second half, but the boys stood tall and showed they wouldn't give up, something they should be proud of.

Player of the match, Callum was always trying and succeeding in threading balls through for us to get on the attack, helping to give us more opportunities to gain an advantage.
Porto welcome TFA in the league next week. They will have to start much quicker and not let their opponents take such a lead. They must take heart from their second half display.
