U12 PORTO LEFT EMPTY-HANDED

U12 PORTO LEFT EMPTY-HANDED

Philip Stanley3 Feb - 08:25

Last minute goal cruel blow after performance with such character

(Many thanks to Coach, Andy, for the match report)

Saturday 1 February 2025
MKDDL U12 Division 1
Newport Pagnell Town U12 Panthers 3 – 2 Linslade Galaxy U12 Porto

Unfortunately, this was a case of déjà vu for Porto as they couldn't get the game over the line. Having fought back twice to equalise, a last-minute goal handed the home side three points.

Porto's character was superb today. With only nine players available, they showed real heart to get something out of the game, and you could see they were inspired throughout the game.

After falling behind midway through the first half to a lofted shot, Porto were well in the game and had chances. It was a tremendous second half display that kept us entertained.
There was great energy from everyone, always trying to get it wide. Tom caused the full back havoc, and it was his cross into the box which got diverted into the goal. There were saves from the Newport keeper to deny us, including the post, and as Callum's corners had become threatening it was against the run of play when the home side went ahead.
Porto showed constant desire to come back, and they deservedly scored an equaliser when Jack slotted it in. With the match heading for a draw, we didn't clear the danger earlier enough, allowing the home side to bundle home.

Player of the match was James, a constant engine across the pitch, with relentless work all the way through.

This was a sore one to take as Porto deserved more. A reminder that football can be cruel. But very proud of the team today, who received praise from the home team coaches as they were not sure how we didn't get something from the game.

We will respond even stronger, as there is an inner strength in this Porto side which continues to shine.
