U13 PORTO CAN'T DISRUPT LEAGUE LEADERS

U13 PORTO CAN'T DISRUPT LEAGUE LEADERS

Philip Stanley10 May - 19:13

Second half improvement not enough against table-topping Wootton Blue Cross

(Many thanks to Coach, Andy, for the match report)

Saturday 9 May
MKDDL U13 Division 2
Linslade Galaxy U13 Porto 2 – 5 Wootton Blue Cross Youth U13

Porto were too stand‑offish against a strong Wootton side and allowed the league leaders too much time and space early on. They failed to close down quickly enough and were beaten too often in 50/50 challenges, allowing Wootton to play without pressure.

Porto struggled to create space, with limited movement and anticipation off‑the‑ball. The dry pitch, niggling injuries and fatigue added to the challenge.

The second half showed more fight. Porto won more battles, connected much better in midfield, and created several good chances. The second half finished 2–2, showing what was possible.

Stan pounced to score after indecision at the back, and Jack followed up well to stab home another. It was a shame other chances couldn't be converted.

The difference was conceding goals at key moments. It showed that you can't stand off teams and give them a head start.

Players of the match were Logan and James. Logan defended well, covering different positions and cleared danger consistently. James showed lots of energy and commitment, shutting down play in midfield and not backing down.

With one game left this season, the team has the opportunity to finish on a high on Tuesday night and need to make the spells of good play last the full match.
