MKDDL U13 Division 2
Linslade Galaxy U13 Porto 1 – 1 Sporting Club Aspire U13 Raiders
After a tense match of contrasting styles Porto had to settle for a point. The hosts had the better chances throughout the match but struggled to break down a stubborn SCA that defended deep which stifled Porto's rhythm.
The first half stalemate was a battle, and Porto were tested from long balls which was nervy when they let the ball bounce, and all the moaning from the away side for every decision didn't help.
Porto's persistence paid off when Jack scored a neat finish early in the second half when the team pushed forward to capitalise against the deep defending from SCA.
At the other end, Porto were forced to stay alert, especially as the away side pushed for decisions and appeals in the box, getting their third shout rewarded with a penalty that levelled the match. It could have been a different story when Porto's chances late on had proved fruitful, Jack struck the bar late on, which was agonisingly close.
Player of the match was Archie, who stood firm at the back, making tackles and interceptions, and battled to the end.
In the end, two contrasting styles defined the match. Porto trying to play versus SCA's deep, suffocating setup. Porto had late chances to win it but ultimately had to hold on to prevent the visitors snatching more from late corners.
There is plenty to build on, a learning experience despite the frustration.
