U13 PORTO HAVE NO JOY AGAINST LEAGUE LEADERS

U13 PORTO HAVE NO JOY AGAINST LEAGUE LEADERS

Philip Stanley8 Mar - 19:01

Porto fail to ignite away at Wootton Blue Cross

(Many thanks to Coach, Andy, for the match report)

MKDDL U13 Division 2
Saturday 7 March
Wootton Blue Cross Youth U13 2 – 0 Linslade Galaxy U13 Porto

Porto headed to the league leaders, but something was missing from the normal free-flowing Galaxy performances we have been used to. Whether it was the sticky pitch, or simply an off day, the performance never reached the usual standards, and it felt like something was left behind.

There was good pressure at times, but a bit more oomph was needed. The hosts were handed a dubious penalty in the first half, but justice was served as it clipped the bar.

Unfortunately, later in the half Wootton took the lead after some indecision at the back.

The half time reset didn't have the impact we hoped for and within a minute of the restart two Wootton players pounced to score a second goal. The moment summed up the game a bit as Porto struggled to create clear chances and the opposition were quicker to the ball. A strong shout for a penalty in the second half was waved away, adding to the frustration.

Porto needed a touch more urgency and movement off the ball. Tweaks to the line up didn't create the spark too. The positive is that Porto will face Wootton at home later in the season and this result will give motivation and a point to prove in the reverse fixture.

Player of the match was George who battled well in midfield to break-up play and looked to get the team to play forward when he could.

With two home games to come in March, Porto will look to getting back in the swing of it in March and get back to their flowing football.
