U13 PORTO PLAY THE QUALITY FOOTBALL IN AWAY DEFEAT

U13 PORTO PLAY THE QUALITY FOOTBALL IN AWAY DEFEAT

Philip Stanley18 Jan - 23:58

Porto undone by set pieces in each half to come away from Wixams empty-handed

(Many thanks to Coach, Andy, for the match report)

MKDDL U13 Division 2 - Saturday 17 January
Wixams Wanderers U13 Athletic 3 –2 Linslade Galaxy U13 Porto

This fixture brought together two contrasting styles: Porto's free‑flowing, attacking football versus the hosts' more disruptive, physical approach.

Porto started brilliantly, producing two moments of real quality to take a 2–1 lead into half-time. George and Callum both released Ryan down the right with perfectly weighted passes, and on each occasion Ryan delivered wicked, near‑identical crosses. Tom was on hand twice, once with his head, once with his foot to convert from close range.

Porto defended well too, but unfortunately set pieces proved to be their undoing. On two occasions they were unable to clear the danger from corners, allowing Wixams to score.
The second half saw the hosts leaving a foot in, breaking up play with frequent fouls. Porto continued to create openings but just couldn't force the ball over the line. In a match that felt destined for a draw a late winner snatched it away.

Despite the result, Porto should all be proud of their performance. They took the game to an unbeaten home side and showed real courage and intent throughout.

Players of the match were Fin for strong defensive work, full of gritty tackles. And Jack for his relentless running up front, linking play up superbly.

For a first match in over a month, Porto played some quality football, even if the points didn't come. This performance will give them a real desire to earn the rewards they deserve in the coming weeks.
