U14 PORTO EXIT COUNTY CUP DESPITE POSITIVE PERFORMANCE

Porto hold their own against older opposition

Cup disappointment for Porto

Porto gave a good account of themselves against a physical U14s side in the County Cup, narrowly missing out in a hard-fought match.

Adapting well to a new formation, Porto started brightly, but despite their good start they were unfortunate to fall behind. Undeterred, the boy's persistence paid off when Jack finished off a nice team move to level the score.

The second half saw Porto continue their good work. However, midway through the second half Porto went close but conceded moments later. And then our Achilles heel, a second goal soon after.

Porto refused to back down, creating chances and pushed till the end. They can hold their heads high as they matched their opponents every step of the way. Perhaps a few too many changes disrupted the team's flow.

Player of the match went to goalkeeper, Nathan, who gave the team a solid base, claiming crosses, distributing smartly, and talking to the team. A mention too for James, who was recognised by the opposition as their player of the match.

The team focused this week on positive skills they each bring, and their determination bodes well for future games. Really pleased to see the support from those on the bench throughout supporting their teammates.

A break now for half-term, this positive performance shows they will turn it around in November.
