Fitting finale to 8 years of Scorpions action

(Many thanks to Pete Chilvers for the match report)

MKDDL U14 Division 5
Tattenhoe Youth U14 Panthers 2 v 4 Linslade Galaxy U14 Scorpions

A 10.00 kick off saw Scorpions facing Tattenhoe Panthers on a hard, sun-drenched pitch at Hazeley Academy and in front of a full complement of Galaxy supporters hoping to share in a game they would never forget that would see the end of an era for Scorpions.

Things didn’t start well as Scorpions were 1-0 down within 30 seconds following a well worked goal down the right, but Scorpions kept their cool in the sun. Ten minutes later, following some good possession, pressure and all-round play from Scorpions who were by now playing well as a team, the scores were level. Josh beat the defender and played the ball over the top of the defender. This was soon followed up with a second from Beau.

Despite Panthers levelling the score from the spot, Scorpions could have been 3 or 4 up as they headed in at half-time but they would need to have a little patience. With good performances all over the pitch – notably Ben who was vocal and brave in goal, Theo bossing the defense, some great touches from JJ and Cian and good pressure up front from Josh, Beau and Nat - Scorpions were satisfied to be level at half time.

The second half began with Scorpions in the ascendency and it wasn’t long before they were 3-2 ahead. A well worked move from a throw up the right saw Josh again take the ball round the keeper and tuck it away for his second. With the defensive line working well – with George, Theo, Luke M and Cody working hard to keep Scorpions moving forward - their efforts were rewarded again when the ball came out to Beau who put a long ball over the top for Nat to run on to. He stopped for what seemed like a lifetime - took a breath and then slot the ball past the keeper to make it 4-2

With much industry from Jack, Luke F and Alex in midfield, Scorpions weren’t particularly troubled in the dying minutes and finished their season and Scorpions tenure as a team with a well worked victory. The well-deserved player of the match went to Josh who, in addition to scoring his 2 goals, seemed to be everywhere.

It was a fitting conclusion for the coaches – Simon W, Simon J and Ben – to see the hard work pay off for the lads. The travelling fans could be heard expressing their thanks to the team and coaches for an entertaining and competitive victory for Scorpions as the sun continued to shine – and for the hard work that has gone in each week to make Scorpions the team they have been over the last 8 years.
