Spartak travelled to Fairfields in Milton Keynes for their final match of the season. This was an important match for both teams as they prepared under grey skies with MK Athletic needing a win to maintain their lead at the top of Division 1 and Spartak aiming to finish the season on a high and finish third.

Thomas unfortunately had injured his thumb yesterday which meant a last minute change and Caelan in goal.

Spartak started well and for the first 5 minutes they demonstrated some nice passing. Unfortunately that proved to be the peak for Linslade.

By midway through the first half MK had taken control and they generated some half chances, including one shot fired across the goal which went past the far post and a shot from 20 yards that sailed over the bar.

Jack J was battling hard in midfield as ever and on one occasion his efforts led to a chance for Charlie in the box but the shot was comfortable for the home goalkeeper.

On the 34th minute MK scored a scrambled goal which the defence will feel they could have dealt better with. The striker got the shot away which was parried by Caelan. The follow up hit the bar and then eventually the ball was bustled in to give MK the lead.

That proved to be the final action of the half. Neither team had really tested the other’s goalkeepers. Spartak had started well, but passes were increasingly pushed forward to no one and the defence were not helping themselves at times.

The second half was largely a dull affair with Spartak’s first action coming on the 13th minutes after a positive run forward by Dylan. Then on 25 minutes from a corner Charlie cut into the box and his fine curling effort was just too high hitting the roof of the net.

MK Athletic for their part also generated very little. They had one attack which Caelan covered in the near corner for a corner.

Then with just two minutes to go MK Athletic were simply too strong in the box and they doubled their lead with a snap shot from 6 yards.

As the ref blew for full time Spartak knew they had finished the league season in tepid fashion. Theo, Jack J and Tycho showed some battling spirit, but otherwise too many players were below their normal standards. Overall there was too much play down the middle, playing into to the strength of MK’s height.

Whilst this was a disappointing end to the season, it’s onwards and upwards for this talented group of players as they seek more trophies after their County Cup triumph as tournament season begins
