(Many thanks to Coach Stu for the season review)
So another season passes us by in the blink of an eye. This season though, it seemed the team really broke out and showed everyone what they are capable of. As they are getting older, their footballing mentality is really starting to show and looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, I think there is big things to come from them.
As a coach, they are a great bunch to be around. Yes, there are times I need to settle them down a bit at training when they are maybe not being as attentive as they should be but they are enjoying themselves and that is what it is all about. When they have finished their youth football adventure and can turn around and say “ Do you know what, I enjoyed playing my football for Galaxy” then I have done my job!
Onto the season then which in my opinion was one of great success.
September 2024
We opened the season, away at Shenley Hawks and started off with a comprehensive 6-1 victory. Star of the show, on debut was Leon McFarlane with 4 goals. Luke Wilson and William Smith chipped in with the other two goals to see Ajax start the season in the best possible way.
Next up was the big local derby at home against Wing Raiders. The midweek fixture was in front of our largest crowd of the season, made up primarily of Year 10 students from both Cedars and Van Dyke Upper Schools who saw another tremendous performance as Galaxy ran out 3-0 victors. 2 more for Leon was following by a sumptuous curling effort from Finn McGilloway into the top corner.
Just 3 days later and we were in action again, this time with Woburn and Wavendon Hurricanes being the visitors and it was to be 3 wins from 3 for the Linslade side and more goals from Leon as he netted a right foot, right foot, in of the bum hattrick! A great performance by left back George Stamp seeing him win the player of the match award.
One more game in a busy start to the season and again it was at home. This time we played higher division Tattenhoe Greens in the MKDDL Shield. Owen Barrett deputized in goal for regular keeper Ethan Luck and played tremendously but the Linslade side were beaten 5-1. Matthew Hoskins scoring the only goal for the home team.
October 2024
The fans certainly got their monies worth in our first game of the month away at Stony Stratford with the Ajax maintaining their fine league form with a thrilling 6-4 win. 6 different scorers on the day with goals from Matthew Hoskins, Finn McGilloway, Luke Wilson, Lewis Waite, Leon McFarlane and a first every goal in club football for Benaiah Mandiopera who rifled home into the top corner with a free kick, fully 30 yards out and an early contender for goal of the season.
The fine form continued in our other game in October as MK Wanderers visited Cedars Upper School as we ran out 2-0 winners. Goals courtesy of Leon McFarlane and an OG.
November 2024
November stared with the first blip of the season away at Stewkley. Traditionally always tight games, Ajax never really managed to get going and lost the game 1-0.
Our other game of the month was the usual early kick off away at Olney and this was a big one as we needed a reaction from the guys after the previous weekends defeat and boy did we get one! Inspired by our captain marvel, Matthew Hoskins, we ran out 2-1 winners with Matthew and Leon grabbing the goals.
December 2024
The weather laid waste to most of the month but we did manage to get one game in at home on the 3G pitch against table topping Tattenhoe and boy was it agonizing, losing 2-1 in the very last minute on the break. Small consolation was Matthew Hoskins scoring a goal and joining the “100 appearances club’
January 2025
With the weather still not behaving, we didn’t kick a ball in anger again until 18/01. This time, hosting MK City in what should have been a routine victory. Drawing 1-1 at half time, I unleashed the hairdryer in the team talk which seemed to work as we ran through them in the second half and won 8-1!! Goals from Matthew Hoskins, Luke Wilson, Noah Camadoo, a brace from Leon McFarlane and a hattrick from Lewis Waite.
The following week, it was a case of ‘after the Lord Mayors show’ as we visited local rivals Wing. I don’t know if it was the 9am kick off or the fact it was so cold, you couldn’t feel your toes but we never really showed up and deserved our 3-0 defeat in by far, our flattest performance of the season. Big respect to both Owen Latto and Luke Wilson though. Both battling bad illnesses but turned up to play whatever part they could! A big special mention to Finn McGilloway who joined the 100 club in this game!
February 2025
In all honesty, this may have been where the wheels came off in our bid to win the league. Late goals by both Stony Stratford and Stewkley saw what would have been wins, turn into 1-1 and 2-2 draws respectively. Matthew Hoskins scoring in both games and Luke Wilson scoring in the Stewkley game.
These draws were sandwiched by a walkover 3-0 win against MK Wanderers as our opponents could not field a team.
March 2025
March started with the crunch return fixture against Olney in a game that welcomed Harry Tozer to the 100 club. There was only 1 goal in a tight affair, scored by our Captain Matthew Hoskins which saw the points come home. A fantastic performance by Thomas Lankshear at the back and Ethan Luck in goal ensuring the victory.
We then travelled away to run-away league leaders Tattenhoe and were unfortunate to lose 4-2. Highlight of the game was a trivela from outside the box by our attacked right back Seb Barnett. Our other goal was scored by our captain Matthew Hoskins.
Our final game in March was away at MK City and when we finally found the pitch, it was back to winning ways. Running out 3-0 winners with all the goals coming the first half. The first goal was a clinical finish from Leon McFarlane. This was followed up by a 25 yard, goal of the season contender by Harry Tozer before the moment of the match happened. And Michael Caulfield smashed home to score his first ever goal in competitive football.
April 2025
Onto the final knockings of the season now and we started with a 1-1 draw at home to Bletchley Scot. Matthew Hoskins scoring from the penalty spot but the Ajax conceded in the second half as the points were shared.
We didn’t have long to wait for retribution though as the return fixture at Bletchley Scot was just 7 days later. Like the first game, we scored early Through Matthew Hoskins. Like the first game we conceded at the start of the second half. Unlike the first game though, we smashed home the winner, again through Matthew Hoskins. Special mention to our defense ‘BRICK’ Thomas Lankshear who joined the 100 club in this game.
May
Our final league game of the season was away to Woburn and Wavendon Hurricanes and boy, did we save the best till last running out 11 (eleven)-0 winners. A hattrick for Leon McFarlane, 2 goals from Seb Barnett, a worldie from Harry Tozer, a goal for Matthew Hoskins and a goal from Lewis Waite however the story of the game has to me Thomas Lankshear!! In his 101st Game for the club, Thomas had barely crossed the halfway line, let alone scored. I played him up front for the last 12 minutes and that all changed. Within 2 minutes of coming on, we won a penalty. Up steps Thomas who slots it home into the ‘keepers bottom RH corner with aplomb. Not finished there, 6 minutes later he rifles home his second into the roof of the net.
Onto the end of season friendlies now then and we could finally unleash Christian Robu and Sam O’Brien who have been training with us for the tail end of the season but not registered to paly in league matches.
Our first friendly was at home to Stony Stratford and both of the new boys started as we ran out 2-1 winners, with Sam O’Brien scoring and assisting for a Seb Barnett goal on debut.
Our final game was against higher division opponents in Eaton Bray and to be honest, we dominated them. Scoring our opener through Leon McFarlane after just 23 seconds, we ran out 4-0 winners with a second goal from Leon, a first ever goal for Owen Latto (awarded via the dubious goals panel) and a goal from Sam O’Brien.
So, in a rather large nutshell, that was our season.
A big shout out to Matthew Hoskins, Thomas Lankshear and Benaiah Mandiopera who did not miss a game all season.
Also a special mention to Ethan, George, Seb, William, Thomas, Latts, Owen B and whoever else played at the back this season. Keeping the goals out is as important as scoring them. You guys have been amazing.
