Boca end the season with a flat defeat

(Many thanks to Rob Lane for the match report)

MKDDL U15, League game, Away vs Tattenhoe Youth Pumas

Result: Tattenhoe Youth Pumas 3-0 LGFC Boca Juniors

In the final league game of the season, Boca faced a tough test against an improving Tattenhoe team who were buoyed with confidence from their 6-1 victory against league champions, Harold & Carlton, the previous week. Boca had already secured second place in the league, had a week off and lacked their usual energy and tenacity. The pitch, in Loughton, was in good condition and some early morning rain had made the playing surface quite slick and good for passing football.

Boca started the game well, the first ten minutes were mainly played in the Pumas half, with Boca passing the ball well but not able to create any clear openings. After the initial pressure from Boca, Pumas started to grow into the game. To begin with, Pumas were playing on the break and Boca had a few scares when Pumas good passing play put them through on goal but Dan Ingram, in goal, made a couple of good stops & Ben Stunell made a very good last stitch tackle.

Midway through the first half Pumas took the lead. Boca half cleared the ball but the midfield only half pressed out, got caught in no mans land and allowed Tattenhoe in behind to score with a neat lobbed finish, 0-1.

Pumas then began to dominate, they were strong in central midfield and they passed the ball well. Unusually, Boca were not winning their battles, not pressing Tattenhoe and when Boca did have time on the ball they were rushing passes or kicking long.

Towards the end of the second half, the Pumas pressure told and they were able to extend their lead, 0-2.

Boca played better in the second half, it was a much more even game and at times Boca played some neat football but without really creating any clear-cut chances. The best chances came from Callum Scott corners, one which was sent into the near post and flicked towards goal by Will Gibson-Housden and a second which was floated to the far post but Bobby Forsythe could not quite get enough on his header, as the Pumas defender challenged him.

In the final minutes, as Boca changed to increasingly attacking formations in search of a goal, Tattenhoe managed to break away down the left and bundle in a scrappy cross, 0-3.

It was a flat finish to the season for Boca, in a game where Tattenhoe seemed much more motivated to win than a laid back Galaxy team. Goalkeeper, Dan Ingram, was the clear Gartec Player of the Match. Dan was busier than he has been for most of the season, made some good stops, was outstanding with his handling and faultless with his distribution.

Despite the disappointment of this display, Boca can look back on the last season and be really proud. They have beaten every team in the division, played some fabulous football and have created an amazing team spirit. Boca have now been promoted 3 times in 4 seasons, including back-to-back promotions in the last 2 seasons, rising from Division 5 at U12 to Division 2 next season.
