MKDDL U15 Division 1
Linslade Galaxy U15 Spartak 1 v 1 MK Gallacticos U15 Spartan
It may have been the first day of November but the match kicked off in sunny and dry conditions with both teams knowing the points were critical. For Spartak they needed to get back on track after last week’s disappointing loss to Buckingham. MK Gallacticos for their part were desperate for their first point of the season having lost their opening three league games.
The first five minutes saw Spartak demonstrate their passing abilities without finding that final pass to penetrate the defence. The first effort on goal was a long range effort from Owen after 9 minutes that was a couple of feet over. 3 minutes later it was Blake’s turn to shoot from distance and his effort burnt the goalies hands as he made the stop.
As the wind began to pick up so did Spartan and they had the most dangerous moment of the match so far after 20 minutes when a cross was flashed across the box but no one was there from the away side to poke the ball home.
3 minutes later a nice Galaxy move led to Jack J passing to Blake but his curled shot was high and wide. It was end to end at this point as MK broke forward in the box but the striker dragged his shot across the goal and wide of the far post. Then Jack J did well on right hand side and his floating cross was not met by a Spartak head.
On the 34 minute mark there was more action from MK as a looping ball back into the box needed a smart save from Thomas and this was followed very shortly afterwards by a low drilled effort blocked by Dylan.
As the first half neared a close Dylan passed to Blake who got a low shot away. The keeper managed to stop the shot but not quite enough as it squirmed under him to give Spartak a fortunate lead at half time.
As the second half kicked off Spartak knew they would need to see an improvement and an early shot from Charlie was hopefully a sign of things to come.
Spartan for their part continued to show intent and generated a couple of half chances.
12 minutes into the half MK were building pressure again and as the ball ricocheted in the Galaxy box they failed to get a shot away.
Two minutes later the opposition had a free kick in a central position from 20 yards and Thomas did well to smother the effort that bounced just before it reached him. The goal was coming, however, and in their very next attack their striker cut between the two Spartak defenders and scored the equalising goal.
For the rest of the match Spartak couldn’t produce a clear cut chance other than Mali’s effort which went straight at the keeper.
Too many mistakes at the back from Spartak were creating chances for the away side and with a quarter of an hour to go the Spartan striker strode through but flashed his shot wide.
The match finished with Linslade holding on. MK had several corners in a row and Galaxy were fortunate not to concede a late penalty.
Spartak will be disappointed again with their performance. MK defended well, but it was almost a repeat of last week with Galaxy playing well for the first 5-10 minutes and then not doing enough for the rest of the game.
