Wixams Wanderers score six as Spartak’s losing run continues

MKDDL U15 Division 1
Linslade Galaxy U15 Spartak 2 v 6 Wixams Wanderers U15 Storm

In warm and sunny conditions Galaxy kicked off against Wixams, hoping to reverse their recent run of home defeats.

Most of the early pressure came from Wixams corners as they looked a very different side to the reverse fixture earlier in the season. And it only took 8 minutes for Wixams to take the lead as their striker broke through and despite Tycho’s best efforts the striker managed to get the connection needed to lift the ball over the on-rushing Thomas. Not the start that Linslade needed.

After 22 minutes a smart low save was needed from Thomas to prevent Wixams from doubling their lead as they shot from just outside the box.

Three minutes later Spartak moved forward and the ball came to Blake in the middle. The shot from Blake was well struck and the keeper couldn’t deal with it as the ball bounced under him to level the scores. Then just two minutes later Jack J had a chance to give Spartak the lead with an effort from the near the penalty spot, but the keeper did well this time to smother the shot.

Either side of halftime Wixams took a stranglehold on the match with a poked effort just before the break and a fine strike within a minute of the restart.

Unfortunately Spartak were not given an opportunity to get a foothold in the match when a short clearance was picked up by the opposition and probably the best strike of the game saw Wixams score their fourth.

Spartak did manage to get a second when a free kick went all the way across the box and Jack J curled it back in from the other side all the way into the net.

Just a minute later good passing from Wixams eventually saw the ball heading in but Joseph saved the day with a last second clearance.

But Spartak were looking frail in defence and from a corner Wixams scored their fifth and regain their three goal advantage.

Wixams certainly had their shooting boots on today and they smashed the ball into the net from the tightest of angles with a rocket of a shot. This made the score 6-2.

As the away side continued to push forward a last minute effort from Wixams needed Thomas to save the ball onto the post and out.

Overall, this was a match that Galaxy need to get out of their system quickly. Whilst they are on a run of disappointing results there is still a lot to play for - not least the League Cup final. Spartak need to pick up fast against TFA next Saturday to start to build some momentum ahead of the final.
