Spirited Wanderers unfortunate in tournament semifinal exit

Live pitch side reporting from Chris Jones and Graham Black

V Flitwick Eagles Blues

All eyes were on new boy Zach Olding making his Wanderers debut and he didn't disaapoint. Galaxy started well with good passing in midfield from Shay and Ewan releasing Theo who was zipping up and down the left wing. At the other end, Henry was pulling off save after save covered well by Fred, Zach and Luca. Wanderers were unfortunate to go one behind as Flitwick counter attacked and overloaded the Wanderers defence. Ewan pressured well up front to try and create from the wing and Shay was unlucky not to get a shot off as the ball got caught up in his feet. Henry pulled off another great stop and was unfortunate as the rebound fell to Flitwick who slotted home. Things could have gone from bad to worse without a crucial last ditch tackle from Zach to prevent an almost certain goal.

V Walton MK Kestrels

A switch in the team for the 2nd game saw Alfie, Daisy, Albi and Miles stepping into the fray with Luca wearing the gloves. Miles with his first touch burst forward with the ball beating a few players and helping the team place some early pressure. We were getting caught on the break and even Luca’s tremendous saves and speed off the line couldn’t prevent us going 2-0 down. Alby was battling hard to prevent more goals and Henry was using every part of his body to keep the score at 2-0. A Rory Delap style throw lead to their 3rd goal which seemed to spark us into life. Alby had a shot and Alfie burst through with our best chance of the game, forcing a great save. As we pressed for a goal, a quick break left the game ending up 4-0. Lots of effort and hard work by all.

V Walton MK Hawks

Our third game saw a line up of Daisy, Albi and Ewan in the front three with Miles and Shay in midfield, Zach on defensive duty and Luca in nets. Daisy was finding the space well and charging forward and was unlucky to not get through on goal from the first whistle. At the other end Luca was busy keeping us in the match with some early saves. A composed Ewan was tackling well and distributing the ball forward at every opportunity releasing Daisy on the right wing to create pressure. Zach was a menace with more solid tackling and headed a dangerous cross out of the Wanderers box. Some great energy from Miles saw him running forward with the ball getting it out of our half. It was a tense match with some great battling and Fred was.putting in some challenges which saw the opposition floored. Wanderers more than held their own but in the end were hit on the break in the last minutes and a clinical finish from the Hawks made it 1-0. This was a great effort against a team two leagues higher.

V MK Galacticos

A score to be settled here against Galactico along with a fight for 4th place. A hotly contested start to the game with Zach sweeping up everything in defence with all players holding positions well. In the final 5 minutes Albi bursts through to win a free kick. Alfie lined it up and only a fantastic double save stopped Linslade taking the lead. Zach continues to command at the back showing pace and strength. The ref is starting to buckle under the pressure missing a blatant push on Theo as temperatures start to rise. Alfie can smell blood and a quick follow up to Theo’s shot claims the victory with seconds to spare. Bring on the knock outs.

V Linslade Galaxy Juve

This was a tough game coming up against the mighty Juve. We had to be disciplined all over the pitch and Henry came through with a good couple of early saves to keep us in the match. It was a tense midfield battle with Juve getting the edge and putting Harrison Garrity in for a few shots that thankfully went wide. A superb long ball from Henry cleared the midfield and bounced over two defenders with Theo chasing and stretching he managed to shoot and the keeper saved but Theo was there to poach the rebound to make it 1-0.

V Linslade Galaxy Roma

Semi Final undeway against Roma that’ll test our fitness levels due to only having a short break since our quarter final victory. Henry with a world class save to keep things even. Roma do grab a lead with a cross into our box that Henry could do little to stop. Theo bursts through but some strong Roma defence puts it out for a corner. Ewan’s whipped in corner leads to a great chance for Theo that agonisingly goes wide. Henry keeping us in it for now and is putting in a MOTM performance with Zach again a warrior in defence. Free kick from Ewan with seconds to spare hits the post, so close! That’s the final whistle and the team can be proud of their efforts.
