Charlie and Mason's goals and assists earn them both the player of the match accolade

(Many thanks to James Harrison for the match report)

It was a cold, windy and wet late morning kick off against Stony Stratford U10 Tigers yet the team once again showed great commitment with a full-strength squad. Despite the weather and the half term break the warm up alone suggested Bayern were well up for the match ahead.

As usual with Bayern, they didn’t over-commit in the first few minutes, making sure everyone was behind the ball so they could feel their way into the match, all whilst dominating possession and getting their passing game going often with Luca F and Alexander starting the moves from defence and then quick in the tackle to break down play and win back possession.

It wasn’t long before their patience paid off with a nice passage of play resulting in a good slipped pass from Charlie for Mason to shoot firmly past the Tigers keeper. The fans were rewarded with a fine goal shortly after, this time Mason zipping the ball across the box for Charlie who firmly and accurately volleyed the ball into the net. I’m sure this goal would have impressed the manager and coaches the most as it was exactly what they have been working on in training.

With Mason on the left with his trickery, Luka B spraying the passes around, Leo central with his crunching tackles and Albie flying down the right, Bayern were causing no end of problems with some cracking probing passes, firm tackling and mazy runs from all of them in midfield. Lewis in goal could only stand on and admire the display which left him very little to do in the first half.

The second half started with an early goal and probably the strike of the day. A nice pass from Billy was brought calmly under control by Charlie who then unleashed an absolute thunderbolt into the top bin from a long way out. Charlie had himself a brace and was now pushing for a third. Charlie didn’t have to wait long. A true poachers goal, pinching the ball from a short goal kick and calmly finishing past the keeper for his hattrick.

The coaches had the opportunity to move some players around and Luca F found himself up front for a short period in the second half with Luka B moving to defence who looked very comfortable and played in some nice balls down the channels. A great shot from Luca F hit the post and stopped just short of the line, Mason was ready to slide in and bundle it into the net for his second of the day.

There were a couple of breaks from Tigers resulting in some fine goal keeping from Lewis who was always at the ready to close down the opposition and dominate his area. Lewis should be commended for his concentration as he was always at the ready when needed.

Another goal for Mason came from a loose cross which missed all of our players who were queuing in the box but the ball rolled through into the bottom corner for Masons hattrick.

Some more tinkering from the management saw Leo pull on the goalie gloves and Lewis moved outfield. Both players impressed with Leo pulling off a fantastic save to deny Tigers a certain goal. With Lewis now upfront a high ball was instantly controlled by Albie who unleashed a fantastic curling shot to the far top corner which was parried back into play by the Tigers keeper. The ball was quickly closed down by Lewis and recycled by Alexander who passed to Albie, spread the ball wide right for Billy who put in a troublesome ball for Lewis who was waiting on the back stick, blasting the ball into the net for his well-deserved goal and Billy's second assist of the day. This was the team goal of the day with four separate players involved.

It was a difficult choice for the Gartec player of the match as you could’ve made a case for all nine players, however it was only fair that Charlie and Mason were both awarded the accolade given their goals and assists on the day. Congratulations to Charlie and Mason and well done to Bayern, probably their best performance to date.

The referee came over at the end of the match to commend the boys on a really good performance and said the boys approached the game very fairly and all worked together as a team. A very nice touch at the end of the game.
