Great performance from all away at Moretonville Junior

(Many thanks to Coach, John, for the match report)

A huge welcome to Dom (Jess and Stewart) from all our Roma Family (players, coaches and spectators)!

Another outstanding performance from our Spartans who performed superbly at the back whilst scoring plenty of goals. Roma travelled to Moretonville Athletic on a cold November morning. Today was all about putting our passing drills into practice – touch, think, pass. The first quarter saw George and Oliver getting on the score sheet – passes were plenty. Moving into the second quarter Roma held position, keeping to the wings, then driving the ball into the box converting a couple of great goals for Frank who was setup by William – great to see the team work. Before the whistle could be heard, George squeezed a cheeky goal past a top quality Moretonville keeper.

At the half-time break coaches Jimmy and John (whilst trying to keep the boys warm) talked over our corner tactics (no further info can be given – the tactics are protected in a similar manner as the Coca Cola recipe). Needless to say after a quick ‘pep talk’ we were converting corners left, right and centre. William had an amazing 3rd quarter putting some great tackles in, getting up quickly and passing/running the ball into the box contributing to the 4 goals (6 in total) George scored in the 10 minute period. Joseph had some work to do in the 3rd and 4th quarter getting out to the ball and taking a few goal kicks – hopefully this warmed him up.

It must be said there wasn’t a lot for the keeper to do today with our new signing Dom who was quick to embed within the team – holding the back line, dashing up the wing (with a few Cruyff stepovers) and squaring the ball into the box nicely to secure himself a few assists – a cracker to Frank who got his hattrick. It was great to see Dom getting some shots on target which were narrowly missed.

Charlie had an outstanding game keeping the threat of Moretonville at bay. Charlie was able to close out the game with another free-kick taken from the halfway line – smashed at the keeper, the power was too much – final whistle – well done lads!!

Coaches will be focusing on enhancing passes and switching play to provide other scoring opportunities in the near future.
